A Legacy Built Over Time

Tracing our roots and the foundation of excellence.

Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls’ College (BBGGC), situated in Bakshi Bazar, Dhaka, is a prestigious institution dedicated to women's education in Bangladesh. Established in 1948, the college has played a pivotal role in empowering women through quality education. Named after Begum Badrunnessa Ahmed, a renowned social reformer and the first State Minister for Women, Education, Sports, and Cultural Affairs, the college embodies her vision of accessible education for women. Over the decades, BBGGC has expanded its academic offerings, including honours and master's programs across various disciplines. The college's commitment to academic excellence and holistic development has made it a beacon of women's education in the country.

Introduction

The origins of BBGGC trace back to 1948 when it was established as an intermediate college under Eden Girls' College. In 1962, Eden College expanded to a new campus in Azimpur, leading to the Bakshi Bazar campus being renamed and eventually separated as a distinct institution. Initially known as Dhaka Government Girls' College, it was renamed in 1974 to honour Begum Badrunnessa Ahmed after her passing. Her contributions to women's education and social reform were instrumental in shaping the college's mission. The institution gradually expanded its academic programs, introducing degree courses in 1968 and honours programs in 2004, reflecting its commitment to evolving educational needs.

Early Beginnings

Today, BBGGC stands as a symbol of academic excellence and women's empowerment. The college offers a wide range of programs in Arts, Social Sciences, Business Studies, and Sciences, catering to the diverse interests of its students. With modern facilities, including well-equipped laboratories, libraries, and a focus on extracurricular activities, the college provides a holistic educational experience. Notably, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is among its distinguished alumni, underscoring the institution's impact on national leadership. As BBGGC continues to adapt to contemporary educational demands, it remains steadfast in its mission to nurture competent, confident, and socially responsible women leaders for the future.
